Our AVID team is passionate about serving causes near and dear to our hearts. We look forward to another amazing golf outing, this year to raise money for the UW Initiative to End Alzheimer's (IEA) Research Fund based at UW Madison.

UW Initiative to End Alzheimer’s (IEA) as the philanthropic home for the leading Alzheimer’s disease programs on campus. The UW Initiative to End Alzheimer’s promotes and supports the complementary goals of the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute and the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.

The IEA helps sustain a wide range of research projects, community education, caregiver support programs, and training for dementia care professionals and young scientists. Your donation stays at UW–Madison and funds programs and treatments for your friends, neighbors, and family.

What is the fund that proceeds from the golf outing are being directed:

UW Initiative to End Alzheimer's (IEA) Research Fund – This fund is to help support cutting-edge Alzheimer’s research to finding new strategies to slow, delay, and prevent the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

Philanthropy is crucial:

  • Research has shown some preventive health and lifestyle factors can slow cognitive decline. Our scientists study a range of risk and resilience factors for Alzheimer’s disease, including genetics, exercise, gut health, stress, environmental factors, and social determinants of health.
  • Early and accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias is critically important. Researchers are developing new diagnostic techniques to detect cognitive changes in their earliest stages.
  • By using advanced brain imaging techniques such as positron emission tomography (PET), scientists have learned how to identify people at risk for Alzheimer’s disease up to 30 years before the onset of dementia symptoms.
  • 6.5 million Americans have the disease.
  • Nearly 14 million Americans will have the disease by 2050.
  • Alzheimer’s is the 7th leading cause of death in the US.
  • In 2022, estimated health care cost will be $321 billion.
  • More than 16 billion hours are spent annually for informal care, amounting to $272 billion.
  • Deaths from Alzheimer’s have increased by 145%.
  • One in three people over 65 die from Alzheimer’s disease

The highlight of the day will be an incredible round of golf at the lovely Bishops Bay Country Club in Middleton during the afternoon. Raffles, auctions, and a lively after-party will entertain and help us reach our goals of supporting the community.

We invite golfers and non-golfers alike to attend the After-Party in the event tent at Bishops Bay for cocktails, dinner, music, raffle, auction, and awards. We welcome you to invite spouses and colleagues to mingle with our team and community members.

We would love your support whether it be sponsorship, buying a foursome, a raffle or auction item, or a monetary donation to help us raise money.
