We are Back for 2021 ....
After a year of many disappointments due to Covid, the Bacile Scholarship Fund Board is pleased to announce the 28th Annual Bacile Golf Tournament will be held this year on August 2, 2021. We have also decided to rename the Tournament to honor the late Tony Comunale and his dedication to both the Italian Center and Bacile Scholarship fund. Therefore this year and moving forward the Tournament will be known as the Anthony Comunale Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit the Victor A. Bacile Scholarship Fund.
The event is scheduled at the McCann Memorial Golf Course and will include a day of golf, refreshments at the course, tournament gifts, longest drive and closest to the pin and hole in one prizes, and a chance to win $3,500 in a putting contest. After the golf outing, a luncheon will be served at the Italian Center with a one-hour open bar, followed by a live auction and the awarding of prizes.
All proceeds benefit the Dr. Bacile Scholarship Fund. Scholarships have been awarded since 1971 and the Victor A. Bacile Scholarship Fund, a 501 3 C charity, was legally established in 1990. Since 1971 the Scholarship Fund has proudly awarded 114 Scholarships totalling over $225,000 to help hard working and deserviing college students with their tution. We are extremely proud of the accomplishment of these students, many of whom give back to the Scholarship Fund through donations and/or volunteerism. The Golf Tournament is the sole fundraiser for the Scholarship Fund which suppliments the initial funding of the late Dr. Victor A. Bacile. We count on the support of the community and our affliation with the Italian Center and its memebers. We thank you for your support and particiaption of our Golf Tournament.
More about Dr. Bacile and His Legacy....
The Dr. Victor A. Bacile Scholarship Program was initiated many years ago and has been a huge benefit to Italian Center members and their families. In 1990, Dr. Bacile made a generous monetary contribution to the fund which set the stage for the fund structure as it exists today.
Dr. Bacile was a prominent member of the medical community in the Poughkeepsie area from 1931 until his retirement in 1968. He was a staff member of the Vassar Brothers and St. Francis Hospitals and attained the rank of full attending obstetrician and gynecologist at both. For five years he was Chief of Staff at St. Francis Hospital.
Along with is professional involvement, Dr. Bacile was able to provide leadership in community affairs. He was the Chairman of the Poughkeepsie Housing Authority in the 1970’s. He was a bank director for thirteen years. Throughout these years he was also very involved in Italian Center activities and served as its President (1939-1940).
Dr. Bacile remained active on the scholarship committee and joined us each year at the annual golf tournament and dinner until his death in 1996. The Italian Center members deeply appreciate his fine efforts in making the scholarship program a valuable asset to Italian Center members and their families.
Throughout the collective efforts of the Bacile Scholarship Fund Committee, the Golf Tournament Committee and generous support from the community, up to three $3,000 scholarships are currently awarded annually to qualified college students.
