“Leaders become great, not because of their power,
but because of their ability to empower others”
Sam Bastia
Global Verizon Executive, serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist, M&A wizard, uber-strategist, force-of-nature, mentor, loving husband & father passed away after a year long battle with cancer.
Sam was taken from us far too soon, but the impact he had on his family, friends & loved ones will last a lifetime. To everyone that knew him, Sam was a giving, loving, funny, larger-than-life person.
The kids and I would like you all to remember Sam for the amazing person he was, for the friendships he had, and the extraordinary things he accomplished.
Sam always went out of his way to motivate and help young entrepreneurs-the people that worked for him & with him-to succeed. He truly enjoyed it. It was his passion - and it showed.
What surprised me most (being with him for 20 years) is the amount of emails, cards, and texts I received after his passing, expressing an outpouring of gratitude for the things he did quietly for people that even I wasn’t aware of. From being a mentor, writing letters of support for visas, hiring many interns/business school grads, to even personally giving seed money to start businesses. He never wanted acknowledgement for the things he did. I think they are what he wished he had as a young entrepreneur when starting his companies.
Not only do I mourn this unimaginable loss, but the world, as well, has lost an extraordinary mind that could have done so much more.
Our hope for this scholarship fund is to carry on the understated spirit of giving that Sam had*.
