OUR SPONSORS

We are back! It has been two years since we have teed off together to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in southwest Virginia. Are you ready to play?

The ValleyStar RISE Foundation, the charitable arm of ValleyStar Credit Union will host this year’s tournament, Thursday, May 5, 2022. We have SOLD OUT of our 1 p.m. fourome spots. We still have a few spots left for our 8 a.m. shotgun start. Lunch is provided for each group.

All funds raised will continue to remain local and support the purchase of lifesaving medical equipment at Carilion Children’s Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Each year, Carilion Children’s treats more than 42,000 children from 40 counties in Virginia and neighboring states.

Sponsorship and morning team spots are limited! If you have any questions, please contact Greta Kidd, Executive Director of the foundation at 276.734.3891 or gretak@valleystar.org. Thank you in advance for your generous support! I’m excited to see you on the course.

Sincerely,

Meet our Champion Children!

Tripp was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-Cell) at the age of 3. Upon his diagnosis at Carilion Children’s Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, he quickly began his treatment path which would be made up of a 30-day Induction and then 60-day blocks for the frontline portion of treatment. Tripp had slightly higher traces of cancer blasts at his thirty-day sensitive test, so he was on the High-Risk “arm” of treatment. This equates to more chemotherapy, more lumbar punctures, and additional therapy drugs. Tripp entered the Maintenance phase of his treatment over a year later. His family has enjoyed having their little boy back, who is much more outgoing and self-confident with having a greater command of his mobility and feeling much better overall.

Meg was diagnosed with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, Cerebral Palsy Ataxia and Short Stature at the age of 4 at Carilion Children’s Hospital in Roanoke. These disorders make it difficult for her to move around and verbalize what she wants to say. Meg spends a lot of time at weekly speech and physical therapy sessions, like Hippo Therapy at Healing Strides. These therapy programs provide so much for Meg; not only is she learning how to move and speak, but she is also having fun. She continues to make progress year after year. She’s the most determined and polite little girl – even when she is at Carilion Children’s Hospital and receiving an IV, she will sign “thank you” when the nurses are done.

Frankie, also known as "Fearless Frankie," began complaining of weakness and shoulder pain in 2019, and was referred to the neurologist at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Frankie was diagnosed with FSHD Type-2 muscular dystrophy – a rare genetic muscle disorder primarily affecting the upper body including arms, shoulders and face. Today, Frankie is seen by the neuromuscular team at CHoR and attends routine physical and occupational therapy sessions. Frankie’s future is uncertain, but he refuses to put limits on himself. He chooses to play football and swim competitively because it brings him joy and because today, he can. He is an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan, and his dream is to play in the NFL one day.

Raygan (Ray Ray) was diagnosed with stage IV high-risk neuroblastoma cancer at 21 months old. Her cancer attacked her bone marrow and she fought through 6 rounds of aggressive chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, stem cell transplants and surgery for almost a year and a half. It was a tough road but Ray Ray, now 10, is cancer-free! Her family credits Dr. Belyea and the team at UVA Children’s with saving her life. Raygan is a Miracle.
