In Honour of Michael Andrews

Born December 16, 2016

Michael came into the world earlier than expected — actually on his grandpa’s birthday — a tiny button weighing just 5 pounds. We had no idea anything was wrong during pregnancy as his heart condition wasn’t detected on the ultrasound.

Shortly after birth, Michael was taken to the NICU for low blood sugar. It was there — in a moment we never saw coming — the doctors discovered something far more serious: a heart irregularity.

That day marked the beginning of our family’s journey with congenital heart disease.

Michael was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a rare and complex heart condition. At just three months old, he had his first open-heart surgery. Recovery wasn’t easy — there were complications that required a feeding tube and daily anticoagulant injections for a month. True to his stubborn little spirit, Michael decided to pull out his feeding tube — and, soon after, we got the green light from Cardiology to go home. Life slowly returned to a “new normal.”

For the next few years, Michael had regular annual checkups. Everything seemed stable — until earlier this year, when his cardiology team noticed concerning changes in his heart’s growth. We got the call on a Thursday. One week later, he was back in surgery.

His second open-heart surgery took place in May 2025, at just eight years old. While we always knew more surgeries would be in his future, we hoped they would come much later — maybe in his teen years.

Through it all, Michael has been brave beyond his years and true to who he is — Michael bounced back with unbelievable strength. His recovery has been nothing short of a miracle. Today, it’s almost like he never had surgery at all. He’s back to running, laughing, and living fully — just as every child should.

Michael is more than just a patient — he’s our son, grandson, nephew, and our little friend with a huge heart.

At Panel Construction Ltd., we are proud to host this charity golf tournament in support of Heart Beats, an organization that has helped families like ours navigate the unimaginable.

Your support means more than words can express. Thank you for standing with us.
