MR STATON WAS A LONG-TIME MEMBER OF OUR MOTHER OF MERCY PARISH AND AN ALUMNUS OF OUR MOTHER OF MERCY CATHOLIC SCHOOL. HE WAS A RETIRED EDUCATOR HAVING DEDICATED OVER 40 YEARS OR SERVICE IN THE FT WORTH INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT. . MR STATON’S COMMUNITY SERVICE INCLUDED MANY ORGANIZATIONS WHERE HE SERVED ON THE BOARDS OF DIRECTOR OR ADVISORY COUNCILS FOR SUCH ORGANIZATIONS AS: ….THE AMERICAN HEART ASSN (LOCAL & STATE), BLACK ADOPTION COUNCIL, SAFE HAVEN PROGRAM, MCDONALD YMCA, THE FT WORTH T (TRANSPORTATION BOARD) AND THE WOODBINE TRAIL DIVISION OF THE LONG HORN COUNCIL OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA AMOUNGST OTHERS.
HE IS WAS AN ORIGINAL MEMBER OF THE KNIGHTS OF PETER CLAVER, COUNCIL #89 (FORT WORTH TX ) AT OUR MOTHER OF MERCY CHURCH, A LIFE LONG MEMBER OF THE OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY, AND A GRADUATE OF WILEY COLLEGE. HIS AFFILATON AND AWARDS ARE NUMEROUS.
FRANK WAS MARRIED FOR 52 YEARS TO JOHNNY STATON AND THEY WERE BLESSED TO HAVE PARENTED ONE CHILD - GLENDA STATON (DECEASED).

THE BEGINNINGS --- 2007....
The Frank B. Staton (FBS) Classic Golf Tournament began in 2007 as a fundraiser to benefit Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School in Fort Worth TX. It was originally named “The Our Mother of Mercy Golf Tournament”. The proceeds from the event were originally earmarked for elementary school tuition and scholarship assistance programs at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Elementary School. As we have grown, we now include a number of beneficiaries, including several more schools and school related foundations to our list of fund recipients.

The Frank B. Staton Classic Golf Tournament event is annually hosted by the Knights of Peter Claver, Council #89 with assistance from the Ladies Auxiliary St Veronica Ct 89. Both organizations are affiliated with Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 1001 E. Terrell Ave, Ft. Worth TX 76104. Office 817-335-1695. The Knights of Peter Claver is a national non-profit charitable organization. The Knights of Peter Claver, Inc is one of the largest black catholic lay organizations in the United States. The 1st inaugural golf event was held in the spring of 2007 at the historic Glen Garden Golf and Country Club and was organized under the leadership of golf enthusiasts, Mr. Leonard Smith and Council #89 members: Howard J Rattliff Jr., and Michael Barks. That first event started with 36 enthusiastic golfers. Since that Saturday in early spring in 2007, the event has steadily grown to accommodate more golfers and sponsors from across the Dallas and Fort Worth, TX metropolitan region. Every year golfers and sponsors gather to enjoy this event, characterized by its warmth and friendliness.
Frank B Staton was our inaugural honoree for the 1st event in 2007. “Bertrand” as he was affectionately called, would make sure that every golfer and sponsor was recognized as they approached the registration desk each year. His familiar booming voice, large presence, and welcoming hand shake were a mainstay of every golf tournament until his passing in 2015. That same year, Council 89 of the Knights of Peter Claver voted to rename the annual golf event to the“The Frank B. Staton Classic Golf Tournament” in his honor.

Mr Staton was the first honoree of the golf event in 2007. Other honorees included: Fort Worth High School basketball legendary Coach - Robert Hughes/ Church and Diocesan Leader and Fellow Knight - Ralph McCloud/ US Congressional Medal recipient Tuskegee Airman and Fellow Knight - Captain Claude A. Platte/ Judge - Mary Ellen Hicks/ Fort Worth City Councilwoman - Kathleen Hicks/ Harvard University Law Graduate, Esquire and former Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld partner - - Norman M Bonner (deceased)/ - The Harris Family of Our Mother of Mercy Parish/ The Honorable Judge - Lewis E. Sturns/ Tarranty County Commissioner - Roy C Brooks to name a few. These community leaders were recognized for their community impact and their breakthrough achievements.
