Emme's Story,

Her Story is one of strength, a positive spirit and refusal to give up.  At the age of 7 Emme suffered a severe Brain Hemorrhage which was ultimately caused by a Brain Tumour. Over the next 4 months Emme endured 6 brain surgeries and lived in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of McMaster Children’s Hospital. Her recovery was very difficult, rather than complain Emme took it upon herself to fight for recovery.  Shortly after being released from PICU, Emme began her chemotherapy treatment. Emme is now months away from her 12th birthday and she continues to showcase her strength as she proceeds with her second round of Chemo. Emme continues to do great, she is active, she loves school and spending time with her family and friends.  Although her fight is far from over, she has taken the perspective that this is a small part of her journey in life, and she wishes to help other children get through the struggles of a similar diagnosis.  Throughout the past few years, we have learned that everyday 27 Canadians are diagnosed with a brain tumour and that brain tumours are the leading cause of solid cancer death in children under the age of 20.

Please join us at our second annual #Emmestrong Charity Golf Tournament on June 27th. It will be a celebration of survival, we are very excited as our day will be filled with fun, friendship, and fundraising.  All the funds raised from our event will be donated to the McMaster Children’s Hospital department of Oncology and The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada.  The donations will be supporting the more than 900 pediatric patients who receive ongoing cancer treatment in the McMaster Children's Hospital clinic each year as well as granting life changing Wishes for as many Wish families as possible.

When you donate to Make-A-Wish® Canada, you're helping the world's leading children's wish-granting organization grant wishes for children living with critical illnesses. Our goal is to bring every eligible child's wish to life. Since 1983, we have granted over 38,000 life-changing wishes, but challenges related to COVID-19 persisted through last year, and thousands of kids are waiting for their wishes. With a child being diagnosed with a critical illness every 20 minutes, our need for donations is continuous. Your generous support enables us to grant life-changing wishes – allowing kids to feel like kids again.

McMaster Children's Hospital Foundation, part of Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, provides funding enabling the best patient care at McMaster Children’s Hospital, including Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre and McMaster University Medical Centre. The Foundation inspires and motivates gifts that fund medical equipment, patient amenities, research, redevelopment of clinical care spaces, and education/training of health care providers.

McMaster Children’s Hospital is the second largest provider of inpatient pediatric services in Ontario. The Hospital is home to Canada’s largest neonatal intensive care unit, the largest pediatric mental health program in Canada, and the only inpatient pediatric cancer program in south-central Ontario.
