Pompe disease is a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive weakness to the heart and skeletal muscles. Without early intervention, the disease can be fatal. Fortunately, an enzyme replacement therapy can be administered weekly to slow the progression of the disease, but a cure does not currently exist. Families with a Pompe diagnosis face significant challenges, including the cost and isolation of caring for a child with a lifelong illness. This is why proceeds from the Grant’s Giants Goes Golfing event will provide financial assistance for families. Grant's Giants supports the Pompe community through financial assistance, fostering community, and advocating for newborn screening. So far, we have been able to provide grants for medical equipment, scholarships to Duke to see specialists for Pompe disease, and host an annual Pompe Family Meet Up in October.
