COMMUNITY FARMSHARE MISSION & VISION

Community FarmShare is a Montgomery County-based nonprofit that works to create a resilient, equitable local food system by partnering with local organic, regenerative, and naturally grown vegetable and fruit farms to grow fresh healthy produce to support families experiencing nutrition insecurity.

Community FarmShare aims to reduce food insecurity and improve population health through a “Food Is Medicine” approach by providing families with healthy food sourced from local farmers.

With a passion to play a key role in strengthening the local food system while doing this work in a grass-roots, connected way from farmers to families served, students in Montgomery County Public Schools, community clinics, volunteers, and donors.

HOW DOES COMMUNITY FARMSHARE WORK?
Community FarmShare starts from a place of community partnerships including:
  • Community FarmShare contracts purchases with local small-scale farmers (so they know they have a sure sale) and pays farmers a fair price so they can be sustainable and grow healthy food for all eaters.
  • Community Farm Share partners with MCPS schools, health clinics, and community-based organizations with their Farm to School and Food Is Medicine programs to connect those most in need with healthy food access.

Understanding that community partners, families, and farmers all have different needs, Community FarmShare works with all stakeholders to support healthy food programs that meet communities where they are. Through a team of amazing volunteers, fresh produce bags that are packed and delivered to partner organizations or directly to residents' homes.

FARMacy Mobile Markets were launched in 2024 in 4 locations, to include at Darnestown ES's sister school, Gaithersburg Elementary.  Mobile markets provide weekly free choice fresh produce selection brought right to the local communities, further reducing transportation barriers. The FARMacy is stocked with culturally appropriate fresh produce, giving families the choice to select what they most enjoy.

Being a grass-roots community-centered organization, Community FarmShare loves building new partnerships and meeting new volunteers, supporters, and service providers!

The Darnestown ES PTA is thrilled to form a new partnership with Community FarmShare!
