John Holtmann was a major player in our industry for over 30 years, both as a vendor and a retailer. He spent the first half of his career working for, and ultimately leading, the Vita Health Company in Winnipeg, a highly regarded manufacturer and distributor of NHPs. He ended his career owning and operating the award winning Vita Health Fresh Markets of Manitoba retail chain. John served on the Canadian Health Food Association’s Board as Director and Board Chair, and in 2010 was inducted into the CHFA Hall of Fame. In 2012, CHFA introduced the John Holtmann Leadership Award to recognize inspirational leaders who demonstrate passion and commitment, and play a significant role within the industry. John also played an instrumental role in the founding of United Health Merchants, the precursor to today’s Health First Network, a buying and marketing group with 120 member stores across Canada. Along the way, John selflessly provided mentoring, support, guidance and friendship to many people in the industry. Stories abound of John visiting stores, offices, warehouses and factories to offer thoughts and encouragement. Today, we remember John. |
