Oscar's Birdie Bash for PKU: Heritage Hills Golf Resort | Sunday September 28, 2025
Benefiting the Alliance of PKU Families
Welcome to the first-ever Oscar’s Birdie Bash for PKU, a charity golf tournament dedicated to supporting the Alliance of PKU Families (APF). This special event brings together golfers, families, and community members for a day of fun and purpose—all to raise funds and awareness for those living with Phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare metabolic disorder that requires lifelong dietary management.
This event is inspired by Oscar the Osprey, the beloved mascot of Camp Huber—APF’s flagship event and a cherished tradition in the PKU community. Oscar was “hatched” at Camp Huber one summer along the Chesapeake Bay and quickly became a symbol of strength, curiosity, and connection. Each summer, Oscar soars into camp to welcome new families, share important messages about PKU, and remind everyone that they’re not alone on their journey. Now, Oscar is taking flight to the fairway as the face of this exciting new fundraiser!
Whether you're here to golf, bid in our silent auction, join us for dinner, or play a round of mini-golf, you’re helping Oscar spread his wings and support the community that helped him take flight.
The Alliance of PKU Families (APF) was founded in 1994 by parents of children with PKU who saw the need for connection, education, and advocacy. Their first event—Camp Huber—was designed to provide a safe, supportive space where individuals with PKU and their families could gather without the need to explain their diets or lifestyles. PKU-friendly meals were served, educational resources were shared, and lifelong friendships were formed.
Since that first gathering, APF has grown into a vibrant, volunteer-led nonprofit that hosts multiple events each year. These events bring together more than 100 participants from across the Mid-Atlantic and beyond, offering opportunities to learn, network, and celebrate life with PKU.
Recognizing the financial challenges families face—including the high costs of medical food, formula, medication, and insurance—APF is committed to keeping camp and all other programs affordable and accessible to everyone. That commitment ensures that no one is excluded from the PKU community due to cost.
APF is proudly affiliated with the National PKU Alliance (NPKUA) and continues to advocate for improved care, coverage, and community for all individuals affected by PKU.
By supporting Oscar’s Birdie Bash for PKU, you’re not just enjoying a day on the course—you’re helping children, adults, and families access the resources, support, and sense of belonging that APF provides. You're helping Oscar carry the spirit of Camp Huber into new places and new hearts.
Thank you for being part of something meaningful. Let’s tee off for a great cause!
