A few years ago, when Freedom House for the Carolinas set out to create a fundraiser, the idea of a golf tournament came to life. As the team started planning, Darrin Dreyer raised his hand and said, "I know golf and I love it. Let me help." That simple offer turned into the foundation of something lasting and meaningful.
Darrin didn’t just volunteer, he dove in and served as chairman. He worked side by side with the executive director and planning team to make sure the tournament would be a first-class event. From logistics to player experience, Darrin gave his time, passion, and expertise to make the tournament something special. Without him, there simply wouldn’t be a golf tournament today.
Darrin brought that same passion and heart to everything he did. Whether working with clients and peers at the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) or leading at Eckerd Camp, he was deeply respected and loved for his dedication to helping young people. Outside of work, he could often be found on the golf course, enjoying time with friends and family, or cheering on Ohio State, always all in. He had a soft spot for rescue dogs, a talent for fixing up cars, a love for travel, and, above all, a gift for making people feel welcome.
We are honored to rename the tournament The Darrin Dreyer Memorial, not just because he helped start it, but because he embodied the spirit of giving, friendship, and fun that this event is all about. Every swing, every laugh, every shared memory on this course is a tribute to the kind of person Darrin was.
His legacy lives on in every detail of this tournament and in every life he touched.
