In addition to continuing our mission to support and empower families affected by autism with social programs and community access, it's important to acknowledge and address the heightened risk of suicide and self-harm among individuals on the autism spectrum.
Our collaboration for the 2025 Drive for Autism Charity Golf Tournament with the Dan Brown Memorial Fund recognizes this critical overlap and together we aim to:
Raise awareness: Educate the public about the mental health challenges faced by autistic individuals, including the increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
Improve support and intervention: Develop and implement autism-friendly suicide prevention strategies and interventions tailored to the unique needs of this population.
Promote mental well-being: Provide resources and support to autistic individuals and their families to address co-occurring conditions (like anxiety and depression), reduce social isolation, and foster inclusion and acceptance within the community.
This collaborative effort emphasizes the importance of understanding the link between suicide risk and that individuals with autism are also at risk, recognizing the warning signs, and ensuring that appropriate and accessible mental health support is available for autistic individuals and their families.
