The Emmett Manley Parscription Golf Tournament is named after avid golfer Dr. Emmett Manley, pharmacist and PhD pharmacologist. He taught at the UTHSC College of Pharmacy from 1965-1975. He then moved on to teach at Kirksville Osteopathy School for 10 years. For the last 10 years of his career, he came back to UTHSC College of Pharmacy and was named Experiential Education Director for the first entry-level PharmD program back in 1988.

 

The tournament raises funds that enable our student pharmacists to continue providing healthcare services to the many patients in our community through their efforts with the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) chapter at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Each year, student pharmacists reach and serve thousands of patients in Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville, as well as other areas across the state of Tennessee. Some of the education and healthcare activities we provide include:

• Immunization clinics

• Blood pressure and cholesterol screenings

• Education on safe medication use, including programs in local schools

• CPR certification programs

• Poison prevention

• Asthma awareness

• Policy and Advocacy for pharmacists

• Diabetes education

• Narcan education and training

 

We believe these healthcare services and educational programs play a significant role in improving the health and safety of our communities. They are, however, associated with significant costs. Historically, the “PARscription” Golf Tournament has raised the majority of the funding needed for many of the activities we do in the community. We would be so appreciative and grateful for any level of support you are able to provide for this event and to our chapter of APhA-ASP!
