We are excited to announce the addition of our special guest Mr. Gerald "Gerry" Simon. In 1942, while attending University of Pittsburg for Engineering, Mr. Gerald “Gerry” Simon was summoned to the local draft board. Upon review, Uncle Sam decided that the greater benefit would be to have him work in industry as a Petroleum Engineer rather than drafting him in to war time service. After graduation, he cut his teeth at Texaco for nearly a year before his need to serve our Nation overwhelmed him. He again contacted the draft board and made it clear…”one way or another I will be joining…draft or no draft.” Without truly knowing what he was getting into, he struck a chord in history. Mr. Simon is a graduate of the last WWII Bomb Disposal class taught in Aberdeen, MD- Bomb Disposal Squad # 218. During his service he had assignments in Washington State, Hawaii, Okinawa, and Tokyo. I cannot underscore enough, that every technique and tool, every logic tree and procedure, has its foundational roots nurtured in his generation and through his own direct contributions. When we speak of the Render Safe Procedures written in blood, remember that we are heavily referring to the Bomb Disposal Soldiers that were on this man’s left and right.
Gerry will be at the tournament inviting you all to come say hi!
