In Memory of Jim Young

James O. Young

(1952 – 2011)

Jim Young grew up at the Children’s Home with his brothers, Don and Randy.  Jim excelled in sports and was one of the area’s prominent athletes.

In 1986, Jim founded Universal Media, Inc., with his brother Don, and served as its president until his untimely death.  Under his direction, Universal Media grew into one of the nation’s largest media strategy companies with billings in excess of $200 million dollars annually. Through the years, Jim was an active participant and generous donor to many local charities, primarily the United Methodist Home for Children (UMHC).

Jim remains a true inspiration to us all, and he is dearly missed by those who knew him. The Home’s annual golf tournament was memorialized in his honor in 2012. UMHC thanks our friends at Universal Media – especially Don Young and Jim Parsons – for providing their leadership to the Tournament and helping the Home to keep alive vital ties to the past, present and future.
