Rules of Scramble Golf

What is Scramble Golf?

After all participants have hit their own shot, scramble golf allows teamates to play the best ball position of their choosing from said participant's shots.  Generally this is done as teams of four, but can be done for any number of players in a group.  Most amateur not-for-profit tournaments utilize this gameplay.  The play will begin with all players taking their tee shots, then a group decision will be made as to which ball will make the best possibility for a second play.  This generally keeps going until the ball is in the hole.

Rules vary from tournament to tournamet; however, this event will utilize the following set of rules:

• Each team will tee off and subsequently choose the best ball for the following shot.
• The subsequent ball shall be utilized and the location of the next swing shall be allowed within 1 club-length from source ball location.
• Players are allowed to "fluff" the ball within their club-length area to give the best chance at a good strike (we're not PGA players afterall).
• For putts on the green, ball location shall be allowed within 6-inches or so from source ball location.
• This year, an emphisis will made on pace of play to help speed up time.  If you do not make bogey (1 stroke over par), then please pick up your ball and move ahead.  The winners of the tournament will be hitting around par for the course so anything over a bogey will just hold up teams behind you.
• If you start falling behind your lead time by a significant margin, you will be asked to pick up your ball and markself as a double bogey (2 strokes over par) on your scorecard.

Because pace of play has been an issue, I invite others to help explain or coach others who may not be educated in golf to pick up their balls so as to help get everyone back to the clubhouse in a timely manner.  We are all out here for fun, but we don't want our dinner to get cold!
