About the Equestrian Team

The Mississippi State Equestrian Team competes as a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association within Zone 5, Region 2. The team competes in both Hunt Seat Equitation - on the flat and over fences - and Western Horsemanship and Reining. Currently there are 16 teams in this region that compete in the Hunt Seat competitions and 6 teams that compete in the Western competitions. We travel and compete against schools in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.

The Mississippi State Equestrian Team was established in 2003. In 2016, the configuration of the team was revamped and brought to campus. The re-structuring of the team allowed for the establishment of official coaches, team expectations, and a rigorous training schedule. All members actively participate in weekly riding lessons, team workouts, and assist with all fundraising and community service activities.

In three short years the team has flourished and has gone from under "dawg" to top "dawg". This team has worked tirelessly to climb the ranks with limited horse power and equipment. Unlike other IHSA teams at other schools, the MSU Equestrian Team is completely self-funded which adds another element of difficulty to our plate. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps ease the financial burden of competing on a sports team.
