A MESSAGE FROM GEENA

 

As a young child I realized, by the example set by my parents, my passion for helping those in need. Additionally, as a product of a family with many educators, I learned the importance of providing an avenue for all children to explore every possible interest in order to determine their life’s path. Consequently, I decided in 2019, to create an organization which could serve as a conduit for youth in underserved communities to provide opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, athletics and math.

After numerous encounters with underserved children, thru my work in the non-profit arena, I realized the stark disparity between families who could afford to send their youth to summer science camp, math camp, sports camp or provide exposure to the arts in comparison to those families who worked equally as hard, but as a result of circumstances beyond their control, could not afford to pay for anything other than the bare necessities.

As a result of this heartbreaking reality - I decided to create an organization which would bridge the resource gap in order to expose black & brown youth to experiences which would empower and prepare them for an equal chance at success. This organization was named NEXXTONE ACADEMY!

You may ask – Why the name NexxtOne Academy?  This name signifies that any one of the young people we encounter has the opportunity to be the “next one” to transform families, communities and the world. Through our programs, mentorship, love and support, our youth will be able to see their future through an entirely different lens – a future with NO LIMITS!

As you can imagine, the work we do requires the support of volunteers, donors and other resources by those who understand the need for the critical work we do.

Please join us for our 2^nd Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser, on Monday October 10, 2022. While last year’s event was a success, we are looking forward to an even bigger event this year.

With your help and support we will be able to reach and serve a larger number of youth.
