In 2012, David Barringer had an idea. As an employee at L. Gordon Iron & Metal Co. for over 30 years, he witnessed many instances when the Gordon family gave back to this community. He decided he wanted to do something himself to give back so he founded the L. Gordon Iron & Metal Co. Memorial Golf Classic. He chose the Boys and Girls Club of the Piedmont as the charity he wanted to support. The first event was only a small group of golfers and a few Gordon employees but over the years it has grown into one of the top fundraisers for this deserving organization. What started as David and several of his golfing buddies getting together to play some golf and hopefully raise some money, has turned into an annual event that has raised over $200,000 for the Club!
In September of 2019, David was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He bravely battled this disease until he passed on February 20, 2020 at just 56 years old. David was a dear friend to many and is missed dearly. To honor his memory, as well as his love and support for this tournament, it is now and forever the The David Barringer Memorial Golf Tournament aka The Barringer, as he was affectionately known. Our goal is to raise as much money for the Boys and Girls Club as we possibly can, just as David would if he were here.
