We are thrilled to announce the return of the Shea Gifford Charity Tournament after a three-year hiatus. It is with great enthusiasm that we extend an invitation to you to be a key part of this momentous occasion. This year's event promises to be extraordinary as we embark on a new cause, a new course, and reunite with old friends. It is an opportunity to forge new connections, and, most importantly, a chance to support a cause close to our hearts.
This year, all proceeds from the tournament will go toward the Emerging Adult Mental Health Initiative facilitated by the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation. As we witness an increasing number of 16 to 24-year-olds facing mental health challenges, there is a pressing need to bridge the gaps in the existing healthcare system. These individuals often find themselves falling between the cracks of pediatric and adult mental health care, resulting in inadequate support. With your sponsorship, we aspire to transform the current healthcare model and create a more robust system that caters specifically to the unique needs of emerging adults thereby transforming the lives of those in our community.
EMERGING ADULT MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE
While children and teens across Canada experience rapidly increasing rates of addiction and mental health issues, equally vulnerable emerging adults are facing needs that are just as urgent. Experts say the prevalence of addiction and mental health problems rises progressively as teens transition to adulthood. Since they make important decisions during this time around post-secondary education, moving out, getting jobs and establishing relationships, their mental well-being can have life-long impacts for them as individuals and our society as a whole. Left untreated, mental illness in this phase of life can lead to chronic mental and physical health issues, job insecurity, housing and food insecurity, consequences involving the justice system, shortened lifespan and long-term suffering for them and their families.
