Takayama Memorial Golf Tournament

Fundraiser for the Takayama Scholarship

at Timber Creek Country Club, Roseville
on June 8th, 2019

Join us for a fun day of golf on the beautiful course at Timber Creek, followed by dinner and silent auction to help a great cause. Your generous contributions will go towards the Takayama Memorial Scholarship.

Michael "Tako" Takayama (1959 - 2016) was well known as one of the premier high school women's basketball coaches in Northern California. In his 29 year career at Del Oro High School, his teams racked up 627 wins, making Tako the winningest women's basketball coach in the Sac Joaquin Section, and second of combined men and women high school coaches. His teams qualified for the playoffs 28 times with 15 league titles, 10 Nor-Cal appearances, and 2 section titles. Mike also coached softball for 6 years where his teams won 2 section titles and a California State Championship.

He was recognized as a California State Coach of the Year and inducted into the Sac Joaquin Hall of Fame, but he was most proud of his recognition as California State Model Coach of the Year, a testament to the way he led his team. To Mike, it was more about the people than the wins.

Tako touched the lives of not only his players, but fellow coaches, officials, administrators, and many others. Young girls playing in youth basketball leagues often looked forward to playing for "Tako." He was always supportive of his players - it wasn't unusual for Tako to step in to help players who were struggling off the court, in some cases because they didn't have a supportive father figure. He truly made an impact and a difference in many lives.

This golf tournament will help to raise funds for The Takayama Scholarship, to help women athletes that have had to overcome challenges. Tako would have wanted to be there to help them so through this fundraiser he can continue to make a difference for those that need it most. To find out more about Tako and past scholarship winners, see www.TheTakayamaScholarship.com. Any additional funds will go towards supporting this cause as well as to programs that make a difference for his Del Oro's Lady Eagles.

Thank you for your support to help make the Takayama Scholarship possible. We hope you have a great time on the semi-private Timber Creek Country Club course and at the dinner that follows! We will play a scramble format so golfers of ANY skill level can participate and have fun. Below you will be able to REGISTER to golf in the tournament or select DINNER ONLY for the dinner and auction. Please also consider SPONSORING our event to help make this event a wonderful success.
