About Us and Previous Tournaments

The event is held in memory of Breana McGroarty, our lovely daughter and niece who lost her battle with mental illness in 2017.  Her journey brought to light the severe voids in our public mental health care system.   It has since been our mission, and our committment to raise awareness about mental health and speak up to fight stigma & discrimination.  We aim to help private providers of free mental health services that fill the voids, knowing these voids can be life threatening.

Our charity is Stella's Place. https://stellasplace.ca/   Stella's Place is filling the voids by offering free programs that are accessible immediately.   As a result, emergency department visits and in patient hospital stays reduce significantly.  

Established in 2015, Stella's Place is the future of mental health for young adults ages 16-29. A privately funded centre in Toronto, designed by young adults, their families and professionals, they provide comprehensive mental health services that offers immediate access to free supports, services and counselling in a positive, peer engaging community.   They offer a full menu of choices including peer support, clinical, employment, wellness, studio and recovery programs to help young adults learn skills, find connection and be empowered to manage their own health.  No other organization does what they do, and most importantly, IT WORKS.

2021,  the 3rd Annual Breana McGroarty Charity Golf Tournament raised over $26,000 for Stella’s Place!!  

We could not have accomplished this without the support and generosity of our sponsors, participants and donors.  The $26,000+ raised was matched by a Stella’s Place donor and the $52,000+ was designated to Stella's Place Building for Mental Health Campaign - funds went towards the construction of their new healing hub located at 54 Wolseley Street in Toronto.  Their new space enables them to double their capacity and will be fully accessible.  Construction broke ground in September 2020 and the building is expected to be open by mid 2022.

Over the past 3 years, our charity golf tournament has raised over $55,000 for Stella's Place.
