Heartbreak to Hope: Saddlebrook Resort | Saturday June 20, 2026
This is not a story we ever imagined telling publicly.
Like so many others, Pla and I dreamed of becoming parents. We talked about it quietly at first, then excitedly. We planned. We hoped. We believed that if we were careful and patient, things would unfold the way they were supposed to.
Instead, our lives were changed by a medical emergency so rare that most doctors never encounter it.
At just 12 weeks pregnant, Pla suffered a catastrophic uterine rupture. Uterine rupture this early in pregnancy is almost unheard of prior to 14 weeks, only 61 cases have ever been recorded in medical history.
In a matter of moments, everything changed.
We lost our baby.
And Pla nearly lost her life.
The rupture caused massive internal bleeding. By the time doctors were able to intervene, Pla had internally lost nearly 75 percent of her total blood volume. Her body was shutting down. She was bleeding out internally, and without immediate emergency surgery, she would not have survived.
During that emergency surgery, Pla required five liters of blood transfusions just to keep her alive. Five liters. Blood donated by strangers who never knew her, but whose generosity is the reason she is still here today.
While surgeons worked to save her life, we were forced to confront the unthinkable. Not only were we losing our child, but I was also facing the very real possibility of losing my wife.
There is no language that prepares you for that moment. Grieving your baby while sitting in fear that the person you love most may not survive the night. The helplessness. The shock. The silence that follows you home and settles deep into your chest.
Pla survived. For that, we are endlessly grateful.
But survival came with a permanent and painful truth. Due to the severity of the rupture and the life-threatening blood loss, doctors have been absolutely clear. Pregnancy is no longer safe for her. Carrying another child would place her life at extreme risk.
That reality changed everything.
If we want to have a child, surrogacy is our only path forward.
Surrogacy is not only emotionally complex, it is financially overwhelming. The costs extend far beyond what most families can imagine, especially after experiencing medical trauma. There are medical expenses, legal fees, agency costs, insurance requirements, and the responsibility of ensuring the health and care of the woman who would be carrying a child for us.
It is a path filled with hope, but also one that feels impossible to walk alone.
This fundraiser exists because while we cannot change what happened, we refuse to let heartbreak be the end of our story.
The Heartbreak to Hope Golf Scramble was created as a way to move forward. Not quietly. Not privately. But with community. With connection. With people who believe that even after devastating loss, something meaningful can still be built.
This event is not about pity. It is not about sympathy. It is about people coming together to help a family take one step closer to safely bringing a child into this world.
Every golfer who shows up. Every sponsor who supports this event. Every donated item, raffle ticket, or shared post matters more than you know. Each one represents belief. Belief that loss does not get the final word. Belief that hope can still exist after devastation.
We did not choose this path, but we are choosing how we walk it.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being here. Thank you for listening. Thank you for standing with us as we work to turn heartbreak into hope.
