The Luke Priddis Foundation Charity Golf Day: Twin Creeks Golf & Country Club | Friday November 11, 2022
The Panthers on the Prowl Community Development Foundation continues to gather momentum in its aim to give something vitally important back to families and young people within Penrith and surrounding areas. Watch the video of the program in action HERE.
The goal of Panthers on the Prowl is to make a positive and lasting difference to the wellbeing of young people in our local communities
Panthers on the Prowl has been operating for over 15 years and has had a significant impact on hundreds of young people and their families. As well as this important individual gain, it has proved that communities and agencies working together can produce mutually beneficial outcomes for everyone.
Since it’s launch in 2002, the Prowl has expanded its programs and personnel to encompass seven different initiatives in local communities. The social coalition which evolved during the initial primary class intervention model has encouraged this process. The building of social capital is at the centre of the Prowl’s enterprise.
All of the Prowl’s programs are monitored and evaluated by partners at University of Western Sydney and it is these evaluations that continue to drive and improve the programs.
Brad joined the Prowl team in January 2012, with an extremely varied career path behind him. Having been an ex-player with the Panthers for 11 seasons, this was followed by sales and management roles in real estate, thoroughbred racing, security and his own small business enterprises in Australia and the UK over the next 25 years. He has always had a great interest in personal development, particularly in young people, and jumped at the opportunity to work in this space when the position became available.
“The most rewarding feature for me is, working in an inspirational and aspirational environment every day of the week. Seeing positive tangible differences and outcomes in people’s lives as a result of our community programs. Working with four amazing qualified teachers with common goals and a “can do” attitude.
Imagine every person has a sign on their forehead that says “make me feel significant”.
Lawrence is a qualified Primary School Teacher employed by the Department of Education & Communities. His position is provided as part of the partnership between DEC and Panthers on the Prowl. Lawrence has been a full-time teacher for over 10 years, beginning his career as a class teacher at Lethbridge Park Public school. After numerous years involved with student welfare, Positive Behaviour for Learning and administering Rugby League Programs in the Mt Druitt District, Lawrence joined Panthers on the Prowl in 2011. He is qualified to deliver Rock & Water Programs, Circle Time activities and brings a wealth of knowledge across a range of areas related to PDHPE & student welfare.
“I would have to say the most rewarding aspect of working at Panthers on the Prowl is the enthusiasm students and local schools have for the program. The Primary Program serves about 140 students annually. Our programs range from 3 weeks in length up to a full term. We find that schools, teachers & parents are very enthusiastic and supportive of the students that come to Panthers on the Prowl. Most of all the students often find a place where they feel engaged, connected and part of something a bit special.”
“Most things in life are quite simple but simple does not mean the same as easy.”
Brogan is a qualified Secondary Teacher and Counsellor currently employed by the Department of Education & Communities and coordinates the Secondary Schools programs for Panthers on the Prowl. Brogan has been engaged in education and community development work for over 20 years. After commencing work as a youth programs officer working with local and rural aboriginal communities, Brogan spent 5 years abroad in the Aid and Development sector and was instrumental in developing successful programs in Brazil, Zambia, Northern Ireland and the EU. Since returning Brogan has been working in the Education Department’s Welfare and Engagement Directorates and has since completed post-graduate degrees in Development and Psychology. Brogan began developing the ‘Building Young Men’ project with Brad Waugh in 2016, and assumed the role as coordinator at the beginning of 2018.
“The most rewarding aspect of working at Panthers on the Prowl is watching the growth and development of our young people as they engage in challenging and rewarding opportunities that otherwise they would not have been afforded without the involvement of the Prowl. Seeing your life’s work have a real and lasting positive impact in a young person is such a special thing – it’s what life is about”.
“No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world”
Venetia is a qualified School Learning Support Officer employed by the Department of Education. Her position is provided as part of the partnership between DoE and Panthers on the Prowl. Venetia has been with the Panthers on the Prowl Primary Classroom Program since its inception in 2002. She is qualified to deliver mindfulness and DRUMBEAT programs and has extensive experience working with students in the area of well-being. She was recognised as the Educator of the Year in 2017 by the member for Lindsay.
“It is so pleasing to see the students come into the program at the beginning of the term and really take on board the messages we deliver. By the end of the program the students often say they don’t want to leave and its’s great to create that sense of belonging.”
“Life is about what you give not what you get”.
Darren brings over 25 years of teaching experience in both primary and high schools from Rockhampton, Blackwater, Hervey Bay to Mt Druitt and Penrith. He works as our PDHPE teacher and has an extensive coaching background in rugby league, touch, AFL, soccer, track and field and swimming.
“The most rewarding moments working at Panthers on the Prowl involve students enthusiastically working hard to better their results and acquire new skills. Working with 1500 – 2000 students annually, I get to see many inspiring examples of this across Penrith, Mt Druitt, the Hawkesbury and the Blue Mountains. Another rewarding aspect is being part of such a dedicated team and working alongside colleagues who are truly passionate in their work.
“You don’t inspire people by showing how powerful you are. You inspire people by showing how powerful they are.”
